Aigua Blava
Leaving Begur in the direction of Palafrugell we come to Platja d’Aiguablava which, like most of the municipality’s bays, enjoys a truly privileged geographical situation. Dominated to the west by the Ses Falugues mountain, it is flanked by Punta d’Es Mut and, to the rear Cap de Begur, with its impressively beautiful cliffs. Owing to its waters of infinite hues and shallow depth, and its fine, light-coloured sand, the beach affords a sensation of welcoming warmth in a virtually unspoiled and little-developed natural setting.
Begur
Begur is situated inland some 700 ft above sea level, and enjoys a superb view over the whole coastline out over the Medas Islands and inland to Pals. The village of Begur has recently become a major tourist centre with a wonderful selection of cafés and restaurant hidden amongst the narrow streets of the village. The beaches of Sa Tuna, Sa Riera and Aiguablava are a short drive away. The Cape of Begur on which all these beaches are situated consists of an immense geological mass, dropping down to the sea in vertical cliffs.
Calella de la Palafrugell
This is the first of the three excellent beaches - the others are Llafranc and Tamariu - which are reached over roads leading out of Palafrugell, a village a few kilometres inland from the beach. Its surroundings are considered to be among the finest scenery of Baix Emporda.
Calonge
Sant Antoni de Calonge is a lovely village with a medieval layout crowding around the castle of the Dukes of Sessa, which was built in the 12 Century. It has many remarkable old buildings. The old maritime part, Sant Antoni de Calonge, has developed considerably through tourism along the beach.
Plaja de Pals
Plaja de Pals golden sands, 6km northeast of the medieval town of Pals, sweep round their bay for 3.5km - although they are hidden by the last uninspiring strench of road leading to the car park. Popular with a sporty set, it does crowed, but if you are prepared to walk 100m or so in either direction you can usually find reasonably empty parts to bathe in and settle down for the day away from the hordes.
